Tomas Transtomer, a poet from Sweden. And I’ll bet none of us had ever heard of him.
You might remember a couple of pieces we circulated earlier in the semester that speculated that we were losing a shared sense of culture in the new digital age. . . . and whether or not that was a bad or good thing. In some ways, its kind of fun discovering something — like a Tomas Transtomer — but in other ways it can begin to feel like each of us carries around with us such an incredibly personal library of “important stuff” as to feel like there are fewer and fewer opportunities to share an experience together.
